How do I order a cake? Please fill out the contact form or send us a message detailing the event date, servings required, The flavour/Flavours you have in mind, venue and any design ideas you have. We can then respond to you with an accurate quote. Alternatively you can contact us by telephone. or through facebook messenger to Mel’s amazing cakes.
We always aim to respond within 48hrs.How far in advance do I need to place an order ?For your wedding cake, We recommend booking your date as far ahead as possible Usually between 6-18 months . Dates do fill up fast especially in the summer months but It’s always worth checking with me as we do sometimes have late availability. You can reserve your wedding date for £50 Which will be taken off your final quote, and decide on a design later. Please contact us to book your free no obligation consultation.
For celebration cakes we recommend a minimum of 4-6 weeks. Popular dates do fill up months in advance so it’s never too early to book your cake. You can reserve your date for £25 which will be taken off your final quote so you can decide on a design later. We do sometimes have late availability, please contact us and we will check our availability for your date.
What happens at a wedding cake consultation? We offer a design consultation for yourself and one guest (We can accommodate a maximum of 4 but we will need prior notice). This usually lasts 30 mins to an hour, which is plenty of time to discuss the design of your cake.
As well as looking at our portfolio, it is also recommended that you bring with you any inspiration you have to help us design your perfect wedding cake. This could include: Photos of your dress, bridesmaid’s dresses or fabric sample, colour samples, invitation, pictures of flowers to be used any pictures of similar cakes for inspiration.
At your consultation you will receive 4 samples of cake to try. If you require specific flavours please let us know in advance, otherwise we will try and provide as wide a selection as possible. Please Take a look at our flavour list to help you choose.
Along with any inspirational sources that may influence your cake design, the following factors need to be discussed to help with the design process:
Number of guests to your event. Whether the cake will be served at your wedding breakfast or later in the evening when you may have more guests in attendance. Is the cake going to be served as a dessert? as you will need a bigger slice to the traditionally served finger portion.
Do you have a budget in mind? We can usually cater for most budgets and an idea of your budget will help me to know what techniques and designs can be used.
After your consultation we will Send you your cake quote by email. If there are details that you would like to change then please note that your quote May be amended accordingly.. A £100 deposit is required to book your wedding cake with the remaining balance due no later than 10 days prior to your wedding date (deposits are non-refundable/non-transferable)Can you deliver my Celebration cake?We can sometimes deliver your Celebration cake but due to our very limited availability we ask that, wherever possible, your cake is collected. Your cake will always be boxed and constructed so that it is safe to travel. We recommend that the cake is placed on a completely flat surface – We find the boot of the car is the best place, it is helpful to have other items in the boot to help keep the cake box in position – smaller cakes can sometimes fit in the passenger footwell. We will carry your cake out to your car and make sure it is sent on its way safely. Please rest assured that if We felt your cake needed any special attention or assembly we will include delivery in your quote. Can I have different flavour tiers?Absolutely! If you are having more than one tier then why not offer your guests a different flavour? of course this means they may wish to try more than one slice ! Check out our flavour list for all of our mouth watering cake flavours.Does the cake require refrigeration?Once you have taken possession of your cake please keep it in its box until required and place on a flat surface. Cakes should be kept in a cool room, away from direct sunlight and moisture until ready to display.
DO NOT PUT IT IN THE FRIDGE – This will cause moisture to attach to the icing and could ruin the decoration.
Your cake will be at its best for up to 4 days after your event, and left over cake must be stored in an airtight container.Do you make nut free and gluten free cakes?Allergies & Special Dietary Requirements

To discuss payments please contact mel@melsamazingcakes.comWhat size cake will I need? Please use my Cake Portion Guide for cake sizes and servings when trying to determine the right size cake for your event. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. My serving chart and sizes are industry standard. If you want bigger slices, you need to account for that and choose a larger size cake to accommodate the serving size you want.
The industry standard for fruit cakes and wedding cakes is a finger portion which is a 1″ by 1″slice and for celebration and birthday cakes a party portion 1″ by 2″ slice. If you are serving your wedding cake as a dessert then I recommend a party size portion.
Please note that all of our square and round cakes are two 2″ cakes, which are torted to give you 4 layers of cake and 3 layers of filling. These cakes will range between 4.5 and 5 inches tall.
